Zveme vás k účasti na magické jízdě Jižní Dakotou, Wyomingem a Nebraskou. Po velkém úspěchu loňské premiéry této mimořádně atraktivní motoristické jízdy skutečným Divokým Západem jsme se rozhodli zopakovat tento výjimečný zážitek i letos.
I tentokrát pojedeme dle skvělého itineráře, vytvořeného americkým dopisovatelem magazínu "Rockin' Down Route 66" Martinem Blažkem.

Den druhý – Teplo a sucho
Druhý den naší velké cesty po Matce cest začal v Joliet, Illinois. Po odjezdu z Motelu 6, kde jsme dali odpočinout znaveným tělům, se naše posádka pod vedením Martyho Bilecki krátce zastavila u památníku obětem lidického masakru. Památník byl postaven českými emigranty v Americe v roce 1942 jen několik málo týdnů poté, co se nacisté vyhladili Lidice. V Jolietu jsme také navštívili místní muzeum Route 66, kde proběhlo první interview pro náš dokument. Odtud se k nám, k velké radosti, také přidal manželský pár amerických aktivistů Route 66, Jen a Dean, kteří nás doprovázeli ve svém skvělém bílém chevroletu z roku 1958.
Naší další zastávkou byl Wilmington. Tahle malá vesnice je proslulá svým Gemini Giant, šestimetrovým obrem ze sklolaminátu, který propaguje kavárnu Launching Pad Cafe, jež je, podle Wikipedia, otevřena nepřetržitě od 60. let.
Kromě toho mezi dnešní další zajímavosti patřila návštěva dalšího muzea R66 v Pontiacu a obdivovávání místních krásných malovaných zdí a pořádný domácí oběd v městečku Dwight sestávající se, hezky poamericku, z kuřete, omáčky, kukuřice a bramborové kaše (děkujeme za pozvání a pohostinnost, pane starosto, bylo nám chutným potěšením!).
Stinnými zážitky dneška pak snad bylo počasí, dosud nejhorší na naší cestě. Chudáci motocyklisté byli promočení až na kost a jakkoliv je teplo a suchý interiér vábil k výměně motorek za auta, tváří tvář intenzivním průtržím mračen ukázali, že mají koule. Pravdou přitom je, že jsme pro všechen déšť neviděli ani stěrače.
Když jsme se pak dnes dostali v pořádku do Springfieldu, dnešní finální destinace, někdo se zeptal, zde je tohle místo, kde bydlí Simpsonovi. No, tohle je velmi ošidná otázka a odpověď je ano – a ne. Zatímco například Ned Flanders, jeden ze seriálových hrdinů tvrdí, že stát, ve kterém se Springfield nachází, sousedí s Maine, Ohiem a Kentucky, což prakticky znamená, že Springfield v Illinois tímto místem být nemůže, realitou zůstává, že sitcom je zasazen do zcela fiktivního města.
Day 2 – Warm and Dry
Day two of our great odyssey on Mother Road started in Joliet, Illinois. Leaving Motel 6 where we rested limbs so weary, the crew under guidance of Marty Bilecki swung by for a while at the Lidice Memorial Site. The site was set up by Czech expats in America in July 1942, only weeks after the unprecedented atrocity the Nazis committed to the people of Lidice, Czechoslovakia. In Joliet we also visited local R66 museum where the first live interview for our film took place. From here, we also enjoyed the pleasure of being accompanied by a couple of American Route 66 activists, Jen and Dean, who drove a sweet white Chevrolet old-timer from 1958.
Our next stop was Wilmington. This small village is famed for Gemini Giant, a 6 meter fiberglass Muffler man that advertises the Launching Pad Cafe which, according to Wikipedia, has remained open for business since the 1960's era.
Other than this today's highlights included visiting yet another R66 museum and admiring beautiful murals in Pontiac, Illinois and enjoying a decent feast on an American-style home-cooked lunch comprising chicken, gravy, corn and mashed potatoes in Dwight, Illinois (thank you for your invitation and hospitality Mr Mayor, it's been a yummy pleasure!).
Today's lowlights included experiencing some of the worst weather conditions so far. Poor moto riders got drenched to the bone! Warmth and dry interior beckoned them to switch to cars but in the face of a series of heavy downpour they showed they had some real guts. The truth is, we could barely see the windshield wipers for all the rain!
Having made it safe and sound to Springfield, Illinois, today's final destination, some asked if this was the place where the Simpsons lived. Well this is a tricky one, and the answer is yes – and no. While for example Ned Flanders, one of the characters from the show, says that Maine, Ohio and Kentucky all border Springfield's state making it virtually impossible for Springfield, Illinois to be the place, in reality the sitcom is set in the fictional city.
